Spent yesterday in the Peak District with my good friend Bob Short. We stopped by Bakewell to visit the new Peak District Photography Gallery. If your looking for inspiration and information about the area, this is the best place to start your search.

After coffee in one of the many coffee shops we headed for Chatsworth.  The House is a stately home of the Duke of Devonshire, and has been home to the Cavendish family, since 1549. Chatsworth House appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

It represented Pemberley, Mr Darcy's home. The house itself is named in the novel as one of the estates Elizabeth Bennet visits before arriving at Pemberley. The house was also used in The Duchess (2008), featuring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, and The Wolfman (2010), with Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. Chatsworth House was the subject of a three-part documentary, Chatsworth, on BBC television.

The light wasn't great but we still managed a few images. As we walked back to the car, Bob though it would make a nice mono image. My thanks to Bob for the company, most enjoyable. thanks Bob.

You can see the mono image here.

Thank you for all your  visits this last week. Have a great Easter weekend, take care.

Spent yesterday capturing wildlife in Clumber Park, near Worksop.  Clumber is a beautiful expanse of parkland, heath and woods covering more than 3,800 acres.

Clumber Park was once the country estate of the Dukes of Newcastle. Although the house was demolished in 1938, there are glimpses of its grand past to explore - from the Gothic-style chapel, often referred to as a 'cathedral in miniature', you can follow in the footsteps of dukes through the peaceful pleasure ground to the Walled Kitchen Garden, where you can experience sights, scents and a taste of the past.

Today Clumber offers freedom to discover a ducal park and provides a haven for wildlife within an idyllic setting.

On cold days like this I find capturing images like this is easy as the birds are really friendly and great for close up images like this.

Photograph a bottle and glass with cool water-drops

I saw a demo of how to do this while at Focus On Imaging earlier this month and though I would give it a try. They used studio lighting that was sure to cost an arm and a leg.  I went for the low cost option, Heath Robinson  approach. A glass coffee table, black background, white card and translucent zipdisc from Calumet. Two flashguns, one with a Rogue 3-1 Honeycomb Grid to light up the logos. Finally cleaning up the image and adding some star effects in PhotoShop.

The hard part is getting the lighting right, its not perfect I know. But I'm pleased with what I managed.
Please don't worry, as nothing was wasted.

After having a bit of a play with Canon's new 6D over the weekend,  I'm thinking about getting the Canon 6D for landscapes and the D7 mk2 for wildlife if Canon get around to announcing it.

Spent the weekend with family and grandkids in Crowland for Lauren's sixth birthday.

Happy Birthday, and may all the wishes and dreams you dream today turn to reality.

Lots of love from grandma and grandad. xxx

Spent most of the week getting this site into some kind of order and sending images to 'ImageBrief'. Getty have asked for another one of my images, nice to know they are taking the time to look at my work. You can check my images on Getty in the link below:-

Spent a cold day walking around Clumber Park. I was hoping to see the lake frozen over after the last to nights, hoping to watch the wild life trying to walk on the ice. But the only thing frozen was me. So glad the National Trust have a coffee shop to warm up in.

A very Happy Birthday to Sarah, (my daughter) hope you had a great day. Lots of love xxx

Hi and welcome to my very first ever blog!
Like kids in a toy shop, I and two friends sent a great day at the 'Focus On Imaging 2013' at the NEC yesterday. Looks like I'm going to have to wait a bit longer for a new camera, rumor has it,  EOS 70D - March 2013, EOS 700D - June 2013, EOS Me - July 2013, EOS 7D Mark II - August 2013 and EOS 3D - October 2013.

I was really hoping to get a look and my hands on the new Sigma 120-300 F2.8 DG OS HSM, but when I got to the Sigma stand I was told it was in a glass case and that I couldn't handle it. I was left with just seeing it through glass and a lick. I found 'Lowepro' wasn't much better, they didn't seem to have a big range on display and little knowledge of what bags were for sale and which had been discontinued.

On the up side Canon as always, I found most helpful and I could happily play with all the camera and lens. Listening to Marc Aspland - The Times Chief Sports Photographer talking about his job was one the high lights of the day. If you don't do anything else today, fine time to check out some of his stunning images on his website. www.marcaspland.com

After seeing 'Hoodloupes' at the show last year, I had to finally get one. No more trying to see my LCD on the back of the camera in full sunlight. My thanks to Bob Schmidt -Vice President. www.HoodmanUSA.com
My thanks to everyone I met and had a chat with, including 'MegaLabs Print Services Ltd' , many thanks for all the info guys and Sarah. Hope everyone had a great show, take care.
